What plays for free

Begin with the simplest rule: nobody needs an account for episode 1 of an open series. Open the show, press play, done. Across the 180 open series we counted on November 2, that makes 180 free first episodes waiting. There is no trial clock and nothing to cancel, because nothing has been bought yet.

Episode 2 is the sign-up reward. A free account usually opens it, and it roughly doubles your free viewing from one minute to two. Nothing in either episode asks you for money.

Add it up and 361 of the 1,008 episodes in open series are free, and 181 of those need the free account. That leaves 647 paid episodes. Spicy series aren't in those totals, because they sit behind Premium.

Where free stops

The wall arrives at episode 3. From there an episode costs 12 tokens on most open series, with 15 of them asking 30. Each one lasts about a minute, so the meter runs faster than the video does.

Finishing the whole open catalog would cost 8,574 tokens. Nobody does that in one sitting, but the figure shows how the pricing works out: the free part is a sample, not a supply. For one five-episode show the bill is modest. For a whole shelf it isn't.

Spicy is the other boundary. Those series are locked from the first episode, so Premium comes first, and episodes after the first two are 30 or 50 tokens apiece. There is no free Spicy episode, not even a first one.

Making the free part count

Treat the free episodes like a tasting menu. Episode 1 of several different shows costs the same as episode 1 of a single show: nothing. So sample widely, and spend tokens only on the series that earns them.

Look for shows with more free episodes. The listing badges show the count, and the shows page can sort by most free. Check the token price as well, since a show at 12 tokens an episode costs far less to finish than one at 30.

Open a free account once, because it usually opens episode 2 on every open series. Then decide per show: stop where the story stops working for you, or pay for the rest. The right to quit after a minute is also free.
