Sworn to the Queen

The setup

The queen has one simple law: nobody touches her, on pain of death. So she chooses Kale, a stable hand who rose to the Queensguard and whom nobody wanted, to stand watch outside her bedchamber every night. Her reason is that he does not look away. In the pilot she points out that the law says nothing about what she may do to him. Episode 2 raises the stakes: she has him bar the door, hold her crown in both hands, and keep still, since dropping it is treason. The court picks her husband tomorrow, and tonight she is not behaving like a queen.

Why people keep watching

Power runs one direction, desire runs the other, and the penalty is the cliff edge. No account is needed for episode 1, which sticks to commands, glances and a racing pulse.
