Riley First, Regina Next

The setup

Jack and Riley are running late to meet her stepmother, with plenty of bickering about getting out of bed and what to wear. Riley has not seen Regina in two years and is sure she will approve of him. Regina does, and her welcome is warmer than expected, admiring his physique while Riley chatters about papers, the library and how sweet Jack has been. Then someone suggests dancing. Episode 2 brings a spilled drink, an invitation for Jack to help Regina clean up and a Riley who appears in the doorway with questions.

Why people keep watching

The tension lives in the geometry of the room: a girlfriend narrating her week, a stepmother listening to something else and a boyfriend caught between politeness and temptation. Small talk, a dance and a spilled drink keep it playful.
