The Man Next Door Knows

The setup

Her husband phones from yet another airport to say the deal is stalling and he'll be away longer. He assumes Amanda will be fine, since she always is. Minutes later a new neighbor knocks, short of everything from sugar to dignity, and she hands over a spare bulb. He asks to use her bathroom; she sends him upstairs. She phones her friend Sarah about him, hangs up on the voicemail and wonders what she's doing. As he leaves he tells her she has a gift for putting people at ease, and then he uses her first name. She never gave it to him. In episode 2, Sarah reports that he blames the mailbox, and tells Amanda what everyone else already knows about her husband.

Why people keep watching

A slow-burn suburban set piece: a lonely wife, a polite stranger and the creeping sense that he knows more than he should. The free episodes keep it in doorsteps and double meanings, which is where the suspense lives.
