The setup

David never wanted to be a plumber. He joined the adult night class since his girlfriend's sister is the instructor, and she warns him she will be examining his work closely. The pilot sets a practical test: repair a deliberately loosened fitting before ten o'clock and he passes. Her last student took forty minutes. Meanwhile his girlfriend is across the hall at her pottery session, due to drive him home when it ends. The sister brings up a Thanksgiving memory involving a carried bag and a grip that lasted far too long. When the girlfriend pops in to ask if he is behaving, the answer is technically yes. By the end the tools are down, the clock is short and the door matters.
