My Best Friends Mom

The setup

Jake is broke, in college, and happy to mind best friend Tyler's house for the weekend. What he finds there is Tyler's mother, Vanessa, newly divorced and in no hurry to explain why her son is not home. The house is stifling, she wants help with her back, and Jake is a nervous wreck. When Tyler phones to ask how his mom is treating the guest, the answer is an unconvincing fine. Then Vanessa's best friend Dana strolls in through an unlocked gate and promises to keep their secret, for now. Episode 2 reveals her price: a turn of her own. Vanessa objects, Dana shrugs, and the evening becomes a negotiation.

Why people keep watching

Two women with competing claims, one flustered houseguest and a friend who might ring at any second: the fun is watching a plan fall apart politely. The pilot needs no account, and it stays at flirtation and nervous glances.
