The setup

Jake's best friend, Tyler, thinks he has found the perfect gift: ten sessions with his mother, a pilates teacher known for fixing backs. Session one has no machines, only a teacher who says she is the equipment. She tells Jake to breathe into her hand, lean back into her, and trust that all of it counts as exercise. Tyler phones to ask how it is going and is delighted to hear things are coming along. Session two is booked for after closing, behind a locked door. Tyler turns up early, finds the studio shut, and starts knocking while his mother's newest client is somewhere inside.
